Getting Started - How Many Persons?
Give thought to how many persons you want in your group.
Discussions work much better if the group is not too large so everyone has a chance to be heard. Chances are not everyone will be able to attend each meeting so the group may be smaller at any given time. When the group gets too small there is too much pressure on those attending to keep the discussion flowing which is really not fair to them.
- If you are having the meetings in each others homes and space is a premium, eight to ten members works well.
- If have your meetings at a neutral site such as a coffee shop, or a Gen X bar and grille, the same number of participants still works well.
- If you meet in larger venues such as a church where space is not at a premium, the number of participants probably would not matter. If the group is too large, you could break up in smaller groups for discussion. Again, keep in mind that discussions work much better if the group is not too large.
