  • The Tortilla Curtain, by T. Coraghessan Boyle

  • Boyle writes a story of the trials of the men and women who risk their lives to cross the Mexican border into America in the 1990s. Two of such travelers, Cándido and América Rincon, have crossed the border and live in Southern California in poverty and the will to fight starvation. Their life is suddenly changed dramatically with the meeting of Los Angeles liberals, Delaney and Kyra Mossbacher, and their two worlds are combined with error and misunderstanding.

  • The Gathering (Man Booker Prize), by Anne Enright

  • The surviving siblings of Liam Hegarty, who drowned at sea, gather in Dublin for his wake. Family secrets are closely guarded in this story that traces the line of betrayal and redemption through three generations.

  • Water for Elephants: A Novel, by Sara Gruen

  • Loving Frank: A Novel, by Nancy Horan

  • A fictionalized account of the relationship between Mamah Borthwick Cheney and Frank Lloyd Wright. Mamah and her husband, Edwin, had commissioned the renowned architect to design a new home for them. A powerful attraction developed between Mamah and Frank as the lovers, each married with children, have an affair.

  • Nineteen Minutes, by Jodi Picoult

  • Another great read for book groups by the very popular author of My Sister's Keeper: A Novel and The Tenth Circle: A Novel. A high school shooting takes place in a small town in New Hampshire and the town is stunned by this tragedy.

  • Luncheon of the Boating Party, by Susan Vreeland
    A popular book club read this season is based on Renior's painting and deals with the lives of the thirteen people featured in it during the late 1800s in Paris.
